Femoral Rehabilitation Program: hip fracture recovery

Hip injuries types

The femur is the largest tubular bone in the human body. Various leg muscles and pelvic area are attached to it, and in movement, it acts as a lever. In addition, it is involved in hematopoiesis and mineral metabolism in the body.

It is not easy to damage the femur. Most often, fractures occur in the elderly. Due to the development of osteoporosis, the bones lose their strength and become more fragile. An accidental fall or a strong blow causes a fracture of the femoral neck, which entails serious complications, can lead to disability, and in some cases to death.

What can lead to fractures in the elderly:

  • Age-related visual impairment;
  • Inactive lifestyle, overweight;
  • Mental illness;
  • Women menopause;
  • Diseases of the nervous system with complications of movements;
  • Vascular pathology of atherosclerosis and vascular leg artery occlusive disease;
  • Oncology.

In young and middle age, fractures appear due to industrial injuries, a fall from a great height, safety violations during sports, a direct hit on the thigh, and a traffic accident. Injuries of the upper third of the thigh are divided into intraarticular (medial) and extraarticular (lateral).

Femoral body damage (diaphysis) occurs primarily in young people and is treated with surgery. Like a fracture of the distal femur, these quite complex injuries often cause complications with untimely or incorrect treatment. Recovery after hip fracture surgery lasts quite long. The right approach will protect the patient from severe consequences, such as loss of mobility, muscle atrophy, joint degeneration, etc.

Symptoms and classification

According to the presence of skin and tissue injuries, hip injuries are divided into two categories:

  • Closed fracture. It occurs without rupture of the skin and internal tissues, is not always easily determined externally. Symptoms include a severe pain in the leg during the walk, an uncharacteristic crunch upon palpation of the damaged area. You can observe the protrusion of a bone fragment, the appearance of a hematoma of tissues and swelling.
  • Open fracture. Bone fragments damage the skin, muscle tissue and blood vessels. It is accompanied by bleeding, whose intensity directly depends on the size of the damaged vessel. The patient experiences severe pain, which is often accompanied by traumatic shock. Possible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure and heart rhythms.

Symptoms may vary depending on the fracture area. Most often, trauma is accompanied by increasing pain during movement. Due to the hip joint damage with a fracture of the femoral neck, the foot can unnaturally turn out. Attempts to move her lead to sharp pain in the damaged area.

The choice of treatment depends on the age of the patient, the presence of congenital or acquired pathologies, the degree of damage to the femur and adjacent tissues. Conservative treatment is used if the injured person has contraindications for surgery. In all cases of an open fracture and in the absence of restrictions, surgical intervention is indicated.

Hip fracture recovery

The rehabilitation period after hip fracture surgery is extremely important, because the person’s further vitality literally depends on it. Especially long and hard is the recovery in the elderly. In some cases, it takes a whole year.

The effectiveness and speed of the rehabilitation process largely depends on the desire of the patient himself. It is imperative to follow all instructions until the injured leg can not move as it was before the injury. Often recovery takes place at home, but it can take a very long time.

To speed up the process and return to previous activity, we recommend undergoing rehabilitation after femoral surgery according to Dr. Blum’s original method. Our wellness Center has all the right conditions for effective therapy without medicine. We strive to restore the client's motor functions to the maximum, return him the joy of movement and a full life. We carry out rehabilitation of people of any age and return athletes to professional sports.

Rehabilitation at the Dr. Blum Center

Dr. Blum's Center is located in a picturesque area on the Mediterranean coast. The warm climate, fresh sea air, Cedar Park and mountains create a comfortable atmosphere for life. This is a special place, charged for productive relaxation and strengthening the body.

The author’s healing technique developed by the doctor includes working with the anatomical, morphological, functional and biomechanical aspects of the injury. Therapy begins with exposure to the injury, a gradual transition to the mating areas and work on strengthening the body in general.

Recovery steps:

  • Patient consultation. At this stage, we examine all the circumstances of the injury, as well as the individual characteristics of the patient’s health. This is necessary to develop a special training program.

  • Biomechanical testing. To build an individual complex of recovery measures, biomechanical diagnostics is carried out. The study allows you to identify "weak links", to formulate tasks for alternate solutions and to predict long-term results of correction.

  • A plan formation. The program, developed by the Center’s experts, takes into account all the initial data obtained after consultation and diagnosis.

  • Preliminary part. At this stage, we start the processes of self-purification and self-healing in the human body. We will use internal resources that successfully help to cope with any damage.

  • Preparatory phase. We return the anatomical, morphological and functional integrity of all body parts.

  • The main stage. We turn to the biomechanical restoration and study on the injury spot. Classes are aimed not only at restoring former functionality, but also at general health promotion.

To solve rehabilitation problems of varying complexity, 800 training devices are used to set the exact dosed load on the target segments of the musculoskeletal system.

The personal rehabilitation program takes into account the person’s age, general psychological and physiological condition, chronic diseases and methods of treating injuries. The duration of the course depends on many factors, the main of which are the prescription and severity of the damage, the volume of surgical and medicine treatment.

Take a free consultation with a specialist from the Dr. Blum Center, and you will find out what result can be achieved in your case. In some cases, a complete recovery, the return of the original motor functions and physical activity is possible. For others, the maximum improvement in the quality of life after an injury.
