Prevention of the emotional and professional burnout syndrome: diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome, prevention, rehabilitation program at the Dr. Blum Center

Burnout Syndrome Recovery

"I'm tired of being tired"

Recently, there have been increasing numbers of people who complain about:

  • continuous sense of fatigue;
  • frequent viral and bacterial infections that turn into chronic;
  • fatigue;
  • drowsiness after eating;
  • decrease signs in the hormonal level;
  • poor tolerance of emotional stress;
  • sleep disturbances.

Each of us, probably, will find at least one of these signs, which are a manifestation of energy deficiency, which underlies burnout syndrome.

People have different attitudes to energy exhaustion and extreme fatigue:

  • 80% disconnect from everything and rest, leaving things to complete recovery;
  • 15% reach severe fatigue and only then can afford to relax;
  • 5% are the real winners who will not back down, even completely exhausted. Such people often become champions, successful businessmen, industry leaders, but such “victories over themselves” lead to a severe form of burnout syndrome.

At the WHO European Conference, it was noted that negative work-related conditions are an important problem for about one third of the working countries of the European Union. According to statistics, “burnout syndrome” occurs at least once in a lifetime in 25% of people. In May 2019, occupational burnout syndrome was included in the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases. From January 1, 2022, an employee will officially be able to take a sick leave with a diagnosis of "burnout". Given the forecasts and the prevalence of the syndrome, this fact can seriously affect the work of companies.

Definition

Burnout is a syndrome recognized as a result of chronic stress that has not been successfully overcome. It is characterized by the following features:

a person feels chronically tired and exhausted even after a long rest;

there are signs of neurosis, dystonia, depression and apathy, reaching attacks of causeless anger and aggression;

reduced efficiency and performance until a complete loss of interest for work and life;

development of organs and systems “causeless” diseases.

Risk groups

People with 25-45 years of age are affected by chronic fatigue syndrome, whose activities are associated with regular communication with a large number of people, processing large amounts of information, making important decisions, a high level of responsibility and emotional and intellectual stress, the risk is increased when all these factors are combined with limited physical activity.

More often than others, burnout syndrome affects:

metropolis residents;

IT- specialists working in conditions of tight timing for 12-16 hours a day;

TOP managers of large companies;

operators of complex information systems;

people of intellectual labor, professions associated with empathy and compassion.

Causes

Emotional and physical burnout is more correctly called energy deficiency. The problem is that the body does not have enough energy for an increasing amount of activity. There is an imbalance between how energy is wasted and how it is replenished. The level of energy and strength are not enough, the body includes mechanisms of energy redistribution and energy optimization. First of all, the organs and systems necessary for life are provided - cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, digestive, endocrine. And the "secondary" functions from a biological point of view - mental activity, sexual activity, emotions and feelings are turned off from priorities.

It must be understood that the social and biological energy distribution is different. Social energy distribution goes “from the head,” according to the priorities that a person has set for himself. Biological energy distribution is determined by the needs of life support systems. Burnout syndrome usually occurs on a contradiction: the body requires, but the person does not give.

Symptoms

The disease symptoms depend on the amount of available energy reserves and their optimization by the body. The figure shows the order of the biological energy distribution by priority and by age.

Energy costs for life support - the red part, this is an untouchable reserve. The cost of locomotor activity - the green part - can be used by other resources as necessary. Energy for the genital function - the yellow part - is the source of the reserve, which serves to enhance mental and sensory-emotional activity. Therefore, it suffers more often.

It becomes clear from here, why a burned-out person, at first, does not have the strength to move, then there is no energy for sex, then feelings and emotions begin to suffer. All this energy goes to mental activity. The burnout characteristic signs are developing: life does not bring a joy, relationships with relatives deteriorate, the results of hard work do not give a pleasure, a person goes into a deep depression.

If energy deficiency is aggravated, the organs and systems functions, cellular metabolism begin to suffer - energy begins to be scooped out of the “untouchable reserve”. As a result:

  • immunity decreases, frequent viral infections, a tendency to a chronic course of diseases,
  • bowel dysfunction: low digestibility of nutrients, vitamins, trace elements, irregular toilet, increase or sharp weight loss;
  • the hormonal background decreases: impaired reproductive function, impotence, women menstrual irregularities, early menopause;
  • the heart and blood vessels diseases: early strokes, heart attacks, arrhythmias, hypertension;
  • neurological disorders: anxiety and depressive syndromes, sleep disturbances, panic attacks, weakness and pain throughout the body for no reason.

The emotional and physical syndrome burnout medication and manifestations of energy deficiency is ineffective, as it is symptomatic, does not eliminate the condition causes. Psychological assistance brings some improvement, but fundamentally the situation also can’t change.

Diagnosis of burnout syndrome

Neurological examination, conventional spondylography and spondylography with functional tests, dopplerography, assessment of hormonal and tissue metabolism, sonography are used for the burnout syndrome diagnosis.

At the Dr. Blum Center, the burnout syndrome diagnosis is carried out by evaluating of three global physiological processes that determine the degree of energy deficiency:

  1. Energy generation - identifying a failure in energy production in the body (E total);
  2. Energy distribution - identification of violations in the priority energy distribution;
  3. Energy optimization - definition of “holes”, where the energy resource unreasonably goes to.

Energy deficit is calculated by the formula:

E total = E (for life support of organs);

+ E (on the processes of self-renewal of organs and tissues, sanogenesis);

+ E (physical activity, walking, running);

+ E (for childbearing)

+ E (for psycho-emotional activity)

+ E (for mental work)

Dr. Blum’s system of methods and techniques is based on an integrative interdisciplinary approach. The energy resource of the body is replenished by increasing energy generation, reducing energy loss, optimizing energy distribution. This becomes possible through a biomechanical effect on the ligament-capsule, muscle-joint structures, nested cavities and spaces of the body. The work is aimed at all six macroblocks:

I macroblock - form, structure, spatial topography of the body anatomical segment, as a part of the whole. The shape can be perfect or broken (displacements, distortions, imbalances). Regardless of the reasons, it is necessary to restore the spatially topographic optimum of all elements embedded in a given segment or organ - this is a task No. 1. The formative anatomical principle has its own geometry, a hierarchy of nesting, topographic configuration and packaging, therefore this macroblock is analyzed in detail from the standpoint of norm and pathology.

II macroblock is the morphology and architecture of tissues, their qualitative and quantitative composition. Tissues are young-old, mature-immature, dehydrated (dried), degeneratively dystrophic, hypotrophic, hypertrophic, degenerated benignly or malignantly. The quality of tissues determines the amount of energy produced in the body, energy consumption and energy distribution.

III macroblock is a function. Internal and external function of organs and systems. The basis of energy generation, energy distribution and energy optimization.

IV macroblock - fluid dynamics - arterial inflow, venous outflow, lymphatic drainage, circulation of intraarticular, intracavitary fluids. In the broad sense of the word, the entire cardiovascular system, the entire dynamics of liquid media in the body, if we understand the fact that the body is 85-95% composed of liquids. The blood supply level determines the quality of metabolic processes: cellular, tissue, organ.

V macroblock is an information and integrative system. Central, peripheral, vegetative. These are the external and internal sensory sensors of the body. Instincts, reflexes, intuition, affects, subconscious mind, consciousness, over consciousness. The work of this macroblock is highly energy-consuming - it is a filter of information on the useful, useless, harmful. Energy generation, energy distribution and energy consumption depend on its work. Burnout syndrome is the result of a malfunction in a given macroblock.

The VI macroblock is a power unit: energy generation, energy distribution, energy consumption, energy optimization, energy mobilization. This block is represented by all life-supporting systems of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive. The main role in energy distribution is played by the nervous and endocrine systems.

Interdisciplinary biology and medicine divide the human body according to the matrix principle into these six macroblocks. They are presented at all levels from the body to subcellular. This principle is taken into account in a holistic analysis of the human health at the Dr. Blum Center and the definition of a program for the restoration of affected segments, organs and tissues, especially in difficult conditions such as burnout, affecting several life support systems at the same time.

Burnout Prevention and Treatment

Based on the results obtained, a personal recovery program is being developed to restore energy generation, optimize energy distribution and eliminate non-targeted energy expenditures (energy losses).

The program is based on the principles of copyright developments in the field of pendulum cascade-wave biomechanics, allowing you to purposefully and predictively influence and restore:

  • bone-joint structures, including ligaments, capsules, discs, meniscus.
  • muscle-fascial structures, including places of muscle attachments, entheses.
  • a system of neurotrophic, neuroregulatory, neurodynamic support.
  • system of conscious control.
  • system of unconscious control.
  • double control - unconsciously conscious.
  • hemodynamic support system.
  • a fluid system - providing interstitial, intercellular, interfascial, intraarticular exchange and drainage.
  • metabolic, anabolic and catabolic service system.
  • energy service system, energy generation, energy distribution, energy consumption, energy mobilization, energy optimization, energy storage.

At the Dr. Blum Physiotherapy and Biomechanics Center, the burnout syndrome rehabilitation programs are developed taking into account the specifics of the profession, lifestyle, age, habits and characteristics of each person.

The author's technique allows you to include the processes of self-regeneration, self-renewal, self-purification, laid down by nature.

Advantages of Dr. Blum's method:

  • accelerated body recovery due to its own resources;
  • an individual approach and a phased solution to the problem;
  • low body energy consumption to obtain significant results;
  • a sense of vitality and a surge of strength after the class;
  • development of stress tolerance and resistance to stress;
